Christmas tack - the day after the night before

So how is everybody this morning?

The madness is all over for another year, although a week from now we can all binge again to ring in the New Year. But by then the tree will have wilted and its tinsel will be shedding on the carpet - its twinkly lights may well have long given up the ghost and will pointlessly hang from the branches.

Who else besides me is relieved not to have to hear I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus for the next 101/2 months, nor Jingle Bell Rock whenever we venture forth from the sanctity of our homes?

And even there is not safe, even attempting watching the News will ensure regular assaults on good taste, some from the items themselves but even more from the interminable advertisements, background scored by the oh so familiar dittys, the rubric delivered by same old faces now topped with red "santa" hats.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

But I don't hate Christmas, on the contrary Christmas is one of the great feasts of the Church year - and it is right and proper to celebrate it and celebrate it I will, according to the Julian Calendar on January the 7th but keeping the dross to a minimum and the real treasure this festival proclaims foremost.

God bless you all.
