Paul Henry Gone. Hal Lewis Gone.

Yes, Paul Henry has resigned. So has Hal Lewis.

Hal Lewis, Emeritus Professor of Physics, University of California, Santa Barbara has resigned from the American Physical Society, partly over his belief that the science process undertaken by the scientists involved in ClimateGate was not science at all:
Your own Physics Department (of which you are chairman) would lose millions a year if the global warming bubble burst. When Penn State absolved Mike Mann of wrongdoing, and the University of East Anglia did the same for Phil Jones, they cannot have been unaware of the financial penalty for doing otherwise. As the old saying goes, you don’t have to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing. Since I am no philosopher, I’m not going to explore at just which point enlightened self-interest crosses the line into corruption, but a careful reading of the ClimateGate releases makes it clear that this is not an academic question.

I want no part of it, so please accept my resignation.
Meanwhile, Michael Mann is very firm on the idea the science is settled, and anyone who disputes his methods to prove it are themselves anti-science:

We have lived through the pseudo-science that questioned the link between smoking cigarettes and lung cancer, and the false claims questioning the science of acid rain and the hole in the ozone layer. The same dynamics and many of the same players are still hard at work, questioning the reality of climate change.
Michael Mann's article appears in the Washington Post on Friday, 2 days after Hal Lewis tendered his letter of resignation: Hal Lewis' letter.

I wonder if it was coincidence that Michael Mann gets an editorial slot in the Washington Post complaining that attacks against the settled science of Climate Change have just got to stop?

and I see Crusader Rabbit has just posted on this too.

And here's an interesting debate on Climate Change: Global Warming is not a crisis

Michael Crichton says (paraphrased): We've got a billion people without clean water and half a billion people going to sleep at night without a meal. We have 30,000 people dying every day due to poverty related illness. Meanwhile, the leaders that claim this is a crisis have not changed their own behaviour one iota. It seems that we care more about the temperature going up 1 degree in 100 years in the future than paying attention to the problems that we have right now. That becomes just an excuse to ignore real problems, and this is unacceptable. On top of that, science moves onwards towards sustainability and reducing pollution automatically, and we don't need to legislate to force that inevitable progress - it is happening anyway.

  1. Yep, saw the 10:10 video clips. Took me a moment to realise you were talking about the "No pressure" clips. Pretty pathetic. Quite unfunny, which is disappointing given the writer's pedigree (I think it was Richard Curtis of Slack Bladder fame.)
