Disgusting short letter in the Dominion Post Opinion section today

Geoff Wood, of Papakowhai said:

Nancy C Hill says a Catholic lay woman is a facilitator for priests' retreats (Letters, March 21). I thought the altar-boys already had that function covered.

I really wonder what type of person oversees the letters and how they decided Geoff Wood's "point" was worth publishing. It seems crude innuendo is acceptable when it comes to Catholics, which is more the sort of thing that would be expected from some blog sites and their more uncouth commenters.

Comments

  1. I saw that and I immediately thought - "Anti-Catholicism, the last acceptable prejudice"

This comment was the only thing the writer could think of after another letter pointed out one of the many important roles women play in Catholic Church life, and thus was a disgusting comment.

However, I think even less of the DomPost deciding it was even remotely newsworthy and publishing it.

  2. So casual slander is ok.

Hm, I wonder if this means they accept casual racism too?

    Or maybe casual homophobia?
